VINUM “World of Rosé 2025” – The Best Rosés of the Year Have Been Chosen

Two Winners – Two Philosophies: Rosé with Character Impresses Across the Board

Rosé has long been more than just a summer wine: it is a stylistic device, a form of expression, a message. And that it can also possess substance and depth is demonstrated by the World of Rosé competition, now organized by VINUM for the fifth time. This year, two entirely different yet equally impressive wines share first place – one from Italy, one from Austria.

A total of 814 wines from ten nations were tasted anonymously, including entries from Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland, as well as New Zealand, the USA, and England. The expert jury, consisting of 22 wine professionals from trade, gastronomy, and winemaking, convened for three days in Ettlingen – tasting was, as always, conducted strictly in accordance with OIV guidelines.

The two winners of 2025:

  • Fattoria Bruno Nicodemi from Abruzzo impressed with its Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo DOC Superiore «Le Murate» 2024: a dark, powerful rosato showing more red than rosé character – yet shining with freshness, precision, and drinkability.
  • Pia Strehn from Burgenland, by contrast, represents the opposite approach: her «Elefant im Porzellanladen» is unfiltered, spontaneously fermented, and aged in wood – a rosé with attitude, tension, and the self-confidence of Burgenland.

Both wines received 94 points and secured the title “Best of Rosé”, a category reserved exclusively for still wines according to the rules. Additional accolades went to Weingut Schnaitmann (D), Mas de Daumas Gassac (F), St. Antony (D), and Taittinger (F). The latter was honored for «Comtes de Champagne Rosé Brut 2012», which received 95 points – the highest individual score – and was awarded Best Sparkling Wine.

The high-profile expert jury – consisting of sommeliers, wine merchants, wine technicians, and the VINUM editorial team – tasted the submitted wines over the course of three days. Wines were thoroughly tasted, discussed, and rated – as is customary in VINUM competitions, in accordance with the internationally recognized OIV guidelines. The more than 800 bottles were completely anonymized for the tastings. There were several tasting rounds, and scoring followed the internationally established 100-point system.

The top results will be featured in the current VINUM issue 07–08/2025, and all finalists and rankings of the “World of Rosé” will be published on the website http://www.worldofrose.com/.
